☀️ 1. What Is a Planet?

A planet is a large, nearly round object in space that moves around a star. The planets in our Solar System move around the Sun. Planets do not produce their own light. They can be seen because they reflect light from the Sun.

🌞 2. What Is the Solar System?

The Solar System is the Sun and all the objects that move around it. It includes:

• The Sun
• Eight planets
• Moons
• Asteroids
• Comets
• Other smaller objects in space

The Sun is a star, not a planet. It provides light and heat that are very important to life on Earth.

There are eight planets in our Solar System. They are arranged in this order from the Sun:

1. Mercury
2. Venus
3. Earth
4. Mars
5. Jupiter
6. Saturn
7. Uranus
8. Neptune

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun.

• It is the smallest planet in the Solar System.
• It has no moons.
• It takes a short time to travel around the Sun.

Venus is the second planet from the Sun.

• It is similar in size to Earth.
• It is the hottest planet in our Solar System.
• It has no moon.

🌍 6. Earth

Earth is the third planet from the Sun.

• It is the planet where we live.
• It has air and liquid water on its surface.
• It has one natural satellite called the Moon.
• It is the only planet currently known to support life.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun.

• It is often called the Red Planet.
• Its surface contains iron minerals that give it a reddish appearance.
• It has two small moons.

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun.

• It is the largest planet in the Solar System.
• It is a gas giant.
• It has many moons.
• It has a huge storm called the Great Red Spot.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun.

• It is famous for its beautiful rings.
• It is a gas giant.
• It has many moons.

Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun.

• It is a very cold planet.
• It has rings.
• It rotates in a way that makes it appear to spin on its side.
• It is an ice giant.

Neptune is the eighth and farthest major planet from the Sun.

• It is very cold.
• It is an ice giant.
• It has very strong winds.
• It appears blue because of gases in its atmosphere.
